The first thing my readers should know is that I am a Christian. I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of the living God. My experience in the world of the church is varied and ever changing. According to scripture, all who believe in, rely on, and trust in Christ as Savior, have the right to be called the children of God, so I am part of a huge “family” of believers. This family is unique in that every person alive is invited to be adopted into the family. I have found that the Bible is the perfect handbook for living. I think of it as the manufacturer’s manual. Who should know better than the designer, how his creation would operate to its maximum potential?
We learn about the nature of God through studying the character and life of His Son while he was on earth, as well as studying the character of God in his relationship with the people of Israel, his special chosen ones. The strongest image of God is found in the words God is love, which includes His affection and delight in His children, His concern for, and His willingness to sacrifice for the good of His loved ones. True love holds a balance of mercy and discipline of those children, to help them grow into healthy, happy people, with purpose in life and satisfaction in what they do. This is the true God who is the perfect father figure.
